桔梗の花が咲き広がる夜の丘を舞台に、妖怪たちの百鬼夜行へ渋々と加わる猫又の姿を描いた、八割堂オリジナルの浮世絵風作品です。

鬼灯提灯の明かりを頼りに夜道を進むのは、天狗や河童、小鬼、付喪神、幽霊など、どこか愛嬌のある妖怪たち。

そんな賑やかな一行の中で、主役の猫又だけはどこか気だるげ。二股の尾を揺らしながら、「仕方ないからついて行くか」とでも言いたげな様子で、とぼとぼと行列に加わっています。

夜の丘には紫色の桔梗が咲き、鬼灯提灯の橙色の光が妖怪たちを照らします。藍色を基調とした夜景に、紫や橙の色彩を重ね、怪しくもどこか愉快な百鬼夜行の世界を表現しました。

Kikyo-ga-Oka – Nekomata Night Parade | Ukiyo-e Yokai Cat Postcard

Set on a moonlit hill covered with blooming Japanese bellflowers, this original Hachiwaredou artwork portrays a nekomata reluctantly joining a mysterious night parade of yokai in a Japanese ukiyo-e-inspired style.

Guided by the warm glow of lanterns, a lively procession of supernatural beings makes its way through the night, including a tengu, kappa, little oni, tsukumogami, ghosts, and other charming yokai.

Among the spirited procession, however, the nekomata seems noticeably less enthusiastic. With its two forked tails swaying behind it, the cat trudges along as though thinking, “I suppose I’ll come along,” giving the mysterious parade a playful touch of feline personality.

Purple Japanese bellflowers bloom across the dark hillside, while the warm orange glow of the lanterns illuminates the passing yokai. Deep indigo night tones, purple flowers, and warm orange light create an atmosphere that is mysterious, fantastical, and gently humorous.
