満月が浮かぶ、静かな秋の薄野――。

黄金色のすすきが風に揺れる夜、一匹の猫又が天狗と出会いました。

突然現れた天狗を前に、猫又は全身の毛を逆立て、二股の尾を大きく膨らませて威嚇。背を丸め、今にも飛びかからんばかりの姿で天狗と対峙しています。

一方の天狗は羽団扇を手に、そんな猫又をじっと見つめています。静かな月夜に出会った二匹の妖怪。このあと喧嘩になるのか、それとも意外な展開が待っているのか――そんな物語の続きを想像したくなる一場面を描きました。

夜空を照らす大きな満月と一面のすすき、天狗と猫又の緊張感ある姿を、藍・生成り・枯金を基調とした落ち着いた色彩で仕上げた、八割堂オリジナルの浮世絵風作品です。

Autumn Moonlit Field with Tengu and Nekomata | Ukiyo-e Cat Postcard

Under a brilliant full moon, golden susuki grass sways quietly in the autumn night.

In the moonlit field, a nekomata suddenly encounters a tengu, one of Japan’s legendary supernatural beings.

Startled by the mysterious figure, the nekomata arches its back, raises its fur, and puffs up its two tails in a fierce display. Ready to defend itself, the supernatural cat stands face-to-face with the tengu.

Holding his traditional feather fan, the tengu quietly looks down at the defiant nekomata. Will their encounter turn into a confrontation, or will something unexpected happen next? The scene invites you to imagine the story beyond this mysterious autumn night.

A magnificent full moon, waves of golden grass, and the tense encounter between two figures from Japanese folklore are rendered in a subdued palette of indigo, warm ivory, and muted gold in this original ukiyo-e-inspired artwork by Hachiwaredou.
